Soup hurts.

Hey guys, hope you have all been having a stellar week. I’ve been spending a lot of nights hunched over a desk working on assignments this week. Still getting used to all of the changes that have occurred in my life since deciding to go to school.

This week was one of those classic Bailee weeks. You know, the weeks where I accidentally spill burning hot soup all over my hands, drop an amp on my toe, and fail to express my emotions properly? Season that with a little pre mid-life crisis, and we got ourselves a nice little martini of awesomeness. Yeah, one of those weeks. One could say I’m a little over dramatic.

So, I decided to compile a playlist of songs, and get cracking on some homework tonight. That’s the good thing about music, it makes homework on a Friday night a little more bearable. It also makes my mind a little less cluttered.

If you’re also having one of those “burnt-my-hand-on-soup” kind of weeks, (I wish that upon no one) then maybe listening to some music could help you too.

Side note, keep me away from split pea and ham soup.

So, here’s what’s on my docket of jams. Can you feel the angst tonight?

Leave Me Alone – FIDLAR

I’ve been listening to a lot of FIDLAR lately. They’re a band based out of Los Angeles, California. With high energy, hooky, and melodic jams, they are easily one of my all time favourites. I love the angsty, and sometimes sarcastic vibe they put into their songs. Also, these guys just came out with their second full length album at the beginning of September. I highly recommend it. Here’s two of my favourite songs off of their latest album, “TOO.”

West Coast – FIDLAR

Boardwalks – Little May

A dear friend of mine who moved to Vancouver, recommended I check out this band and song. Now, I pass it along to you. The lyrics and video are beautiful.

When I’m With You – Best Coast

Best Coast is another band based out of California. Bethany, the lead singer, is one of my idols. I jumped at the chance to see them play in Paris, France, while I was on my Euro Trip this summer. Dream come true. Relaxed, beachy surf rock is my forte.

Up All Night – Best Coast

Afraid of Heights – Wavves

Wavves, another favourite band of mine, are also based out of California. (I’m noticing a theme with my music taste).

I Remember – Bully

Her voice has amazing edge. I’m jealous. Check out this bands debut album. My favourite song off of it.

Mess Me Around – The Babies

The Babies is a band I recently fell in love with. I love the fast paced, and honest lyrics. Check out their 2012 album, “Our House on the Hill.”

Alligator – The Babies

Smother – Daughter

Daughter is a hauntingly beautiful band. I saw them perform live in Montreal in 2013 at the Osheaga Music Festival. If you ever get the chance, and like the type of music they support at the festival, PLEASE go check it out. One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Daughter is just as beautiful and raw live, as they are on their recordings. This song is so emotional. You were warned.

Say Yes – Elliott Smith

Oh, Elliott Smith, how I love you. This song is one of my all time favourite songs, and I think it resonates with everyone in one way or another. Like all of his music, you can feel the emotion, and depth. If you get chance to see the documentary about his life, do it. The documentary is called “Heaven Adores You.”

The Wall – Yuck

The basement recording element that this song has, I’m loving it. It’s my “daze out the bus window, and think” song.

Cigarette Daydreams – Cage the Elephant

This song just makes me happy, and sad all at once.

Clementine – Sarah Jaffe

Ever since one of my friends sent me a message to listen to this song when I was going through a rough time, it’s always been special to me.

Take Me Somewhere Nice – Mogwai

A nice relaxed tune that gets the mind flowing.

The District Sleeps Alone Tonight – The Postal Service

Just listen to this album. Please. You won’t regret it. Plus, if you like Death Cab for Cutie, you’ll probably like The Postal Service!

Hope you enjoyed! If you have any musical recommendations, you best believe I am more than open to hearing them!

Be good to yourselves, k?
